The Sports for Life (SFL) Fitness Assessment (Walk or Run Test) will not be organised this year in view of the current Covid situation. As a replacement, MESRC is organising the Sports for Life Million Steps Challenge (SFLMSC) 2021 Season 2 from 18 July 2021 to 25 October 2021 (100-Day Challenge). We leverage on the Pacer App to motivate staff to increase their physical activity on an individual basis and develop a healthy lifestyle.

The SFLMSC 2021 Season 2 is complemented by the MOE Healthy Lifestyle Incentive Award (HLIA) Scheme. Incentives award will be given to participants who meet the set criteria for 1 million steps, 800K steps and 600K steps during the 100-day qualifying period.

  1. Registration is free and is limited to 5,000 participants who successfully registered via the MESRC FormSG between 18 June 2021 to 11 July 2021 and accepted on a first-come-first-served basis.

2. Participants will need to input the following information in the MESRC FormSG:

 

Information required by MESRC

  • MOE Divisions, Individual Branches and Units / School Name

  • Staff Name (As in NRIC)

  • MOE Email Domains (moe.gov.sg, moe.edu.sg, schools.gov.sg)

  • Mobile Number

  • NRIC Number

  • Gender

  • Age (As of 1 January 2021)

  • Zone

 

Important Notes:

  • Key in your name as in NRIC

  • Select which MOE domain you will be using (e.g. moe.gov.sg, moe.edu.sg, schools.gov.sg)

  • Check your MOE Email Address (i.e. registered on your FormSG MUST BE THE SAME as your email registered on your PACER app)

  • Do not use private emails to sign up (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo Mail or Hotmail, etc.

  • DO NOT connect with social media account (Facebook or Apple ID).

  • DO NOT ACTIVATE Google Fit Service to track your physical activity.

  • MESRC reserves the right to reject any registration for any missing or incorrect information.

3. After participants have completed the online registration via FormSG, MESRC would send an email to successfully registered participants to download a Step Tracker (Pacer) from their mobile phone and to join ‘‘Sports for Life Million Steps Challenge 2021 Season 2’  platform via invitation link or QR code to complete the registration process for this Step Challenge. The Pacer App is available for free download on Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

 

  1. All MOE Staff (except staff from Independent or Specialised Independent Schools, Specialised Schools, NIE trainees, MOE Seconded staff, Flexi-Adjunct & Contract staff), MESRC Associate and Corporate members. This is because the budget provided by MOE to MESRC is computed based on the established posts in Government and Government-Aided schools.”
  2. Staff from NIE regardless of full fledge student or attached to school or division are not eligible to participate and for this award.
  3. Staff should consult their doctor before participating in the Steps Challenge if they have any existing medical conditions.

The SFLMSC 2021 Season 2 will start from 18 July 2021 and end on 25 October 2021 (100-Day) Challenge.

No. Both Steps Challenge are different. Participants who have signed up and/or finished the recent ‘OLive Steps Challenge for Charity 2021’ will need to join the new ‘Sports for Life Million Steps Challenge (SFLMSC) 2021 Season 2’ via the Pacer App.

Please note that the steps from the recent ‘OLive Steps Challenge for Charity 2021’ will not be counted or continued for the new ‘Sports for Life Million Steps Challenge (SFLMSC) 2021 Season 2’

The collection of Full name and NRIC numbers were necessary to establish and verify staff identity to a high degree of accuracy for payment of the incentives award to staff via salary through VITAL.

No, we will not be able to establish and verify staff identity with nickname and partial NRIC numbers. VITAL requires the full name and NRIC numbers of staff to ensure that the payment is made correctly into staff salaries.

Yes, it also applies to staff with foreign identification numbers and work permit as the information is necessary to establish and verify staff identity.

We will ensure appropriate level of security to protect the data (e.g. NRIC numbers) collected from the officers. Below are some examples:

  1. After the registration period is over, we will cease the retention of personal data through proper disposal.

  2. When sharing we will ensure that all the documents are password-protected.

  3. The password to the documents will be shared securely via separate channel (i.e. Skype, etc).

a) Incentives award for participants who achieve the following no. of steps over the 100-day  duration (1 August 2021 to 8 November 2021): 

1 million steps: $60.00 award 
800,000 steps: $40.00 award  
600,000 steps: $20.00 award  

b) Award recipients must still be an MOE staff till 31 December 2021 to be eligible for the  incentives award which will be credited into their salary. 

c) Please note that staff from Independent or Specialised Independent Schools, Specialised  Schools, NIE trainees, MOE Seconded staff, Flexi-Adjunct & Contract staff), MESRC  Associate and Corporate members are not eligible for the incentives award.

a) Additional Age Group Incentives of $20 each (CapitaVouchers) will be given to the top 20 male and female participants for 3 age group categories below:

Age (below 45 years)
Age (45 years and below 55 years)
Age (55 years and above)

b) Award recipient must still be an MOE staff till 31 December 2021 to be eligible for the additional age group incentives award. MESRC will notify the winners regarding collection of awards.

c) Please note that staff from Independent or Specialised Independent Schools, Specialised Schools, NIE trainees, MOE Seconded staff, Flexi-Adjunct & Contract staff), MESRC Associate and Corporate members are not eligible for the additional age group incentives award.

The maximum daily steps count will be capped 30,000, this was based on Pacer’s actual statistics for highly active people.

Participants must achieve a minimum of 600,000 Total Steps over the 100-Day duration to be eligible for the incentive rewards.

No, Ordinary Sick Leave (OSL) is not a requirement for staff to qualify for the incentives award.

All eligible recipients of Sports for Life Million Steps Challenge 2021 Season 2 will be notified via email for successful completion of this Steps Challenge.

Similar to the MOE Healthy Lifestyle Incentive Award Scheme disbursement, MESRC will submit the eligible recipients’ data to AST for payment processing via VITAL for awards pay-outs within FY2021 (i.e. January/February 2022 payment).

Staff who qualify for this incentives award will be receiving the monetary incentive (credited into their salary) by January/February 2022.

Staff who had retired or left the service before 31 December 2021 will not be eligible to receive this incentives award.

Staff who have retired or left the service after 31 December 2021, will receive the monetary award through the bank account that was last used to credit their salary.

No, they will not be eligible for the incentives award.

Yes, staff on maternity leave or hospitalisation leave are still under paid employment of MOE hence they will still be eligible for the incentives award if they meet the steps criteria within the 100-day qualifying period.

a) MESRC reserves the rights to amend the rules and regulations of this Challenge at any time at its sole discretion without prior notice to the participants.

b) Participants should not install or connect to multiple devices (e.g. mobile phones, trackers, etc.) to track their steps counts. Step counts should be based on only one device to avoid unfair practices.

c) Do not use other app to sync or track your steps count. The steps will be tracked through Pacer app only, so make sure to carry your mobile phone to track every steps.

d) The Pacer tracker linked to your mobile phone cannot be shared or passed on to someone else (no proxies allowed) and do not use any third party apps (e.g. Pokémon Go, etc) to sync or track your step counts.

e) MESRC will not hesitate to disqualify any participants engaging in any activity of manipulating the steps count, misuse the Pacer app, fraud etc.
